Description

Hydrocortisone 2.5% is a 30 g ointment indicated for inflammatory and pruritic manifestations in cases of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. The standard treatment requires the individual to apply the ointment twice or thrice daily on the affected regions. The affected surface should be washed thoroughly and dried prior to application. Apply a thin layer of hydrocortisone 2.5% ointment and rub gently until it dries off. The application should be avoided on oozing lesions.

Burning, itching, irritation, erythema, and dryness are the possible side effects of hydrocortisone 2.5% ointment. The individual must be observed for hypersensitivity reaction, and in that case, treatment must be immediately discontinued. Usage is contraindicated in primary bacterial infections e.g. impetigo, acne rosacea, and untreated fungal or viral infections. Since it’s a steroid, it is not used unless another supportive therapy is not being given for psoriasis. Extensive use is not recommended (maximum seven days in children). Usage on mucous membranes and eye regions should strictly be avoided.
