Description
Diclofenac Sodium 0.1% Ophthalmic Solution is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) formulated for ophthalmic use. It is indicated for the treatment of postoperative inflammation in patients undergoing ocular surgery. The solution inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, reducing the formation of prostaglandins, which are responsible for inflammation, pain, and swelling.
This ophthalmic solution is commonly prescribed for patients undergoing cataract extraction or corneal refractive surgery. It is used to reduce pain, light sensitivity (photophobia), and inflammation following surgical procedures. The solution is also indicated for temporary relief of ocular discomfort caused by seasonal allergic conjunctivitis.
Diclofenac Sodium 0.1% Ophthalmic Solution is administered as one or two drops into the affected eye up to four times daily, depending on the severity of inflammation. The medication should be used with caution in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to NSAIDs, as it may increase the risk of corneal complications, including epithelial breakdown.
